Tech Tip Tuesday : Browser Cache

If you have ever worked on a website (or tested a website that was being developed for you,) undoubtedly you have been instructed to “clear your cache”. This article explains what cache is, and how to clear it!

Browser Cache

Cache is one way your web browser speeds up loading web pages. When you visit a website for the first time, all images and supporting files are loaded. These files are saved (as the “cache”.) The next time you visit that same web page, the browser loads the cached images instead of having to download them. This is much faster and greatly speeds up the website speed.

Normally this works great, however sometimes the files and images on the website are actually newer than what is in the cache. If this is the case the browser may display the old, outdated files.

Clear the cache

You can force your browser to reload the files and images by refreshing the web page. This usually works, but if the browser is still showing outdated information, it may be helpful to “clear the cache”. Here is a handy reference for doing that, organized by browser:

Once your cache is cleared, reload the page and you will be seeing the newest version.

Meet The Team : Ashley

Ashley joined the I-Evolve Team as a Services and Support Assistant in April 2014. With a strong customer service background, Ashley is a great addition to I-Evolve! She’s the first person you’ll see when you visit our Buffalo office, and she will always greet with you a smile. In addition to supporting our sales team, her responsibilities include checking in periodically with all of our customers, so if you haven’t had the pleasure of speaking with her yet, you will soon!

What got you interested in customer service originally? Is there a story behind it?

I just kind of fell into customer service, but it worked really well for me and I loved it right away.  I have always been a social person and enjoy talking to people, so being involved in customer service feels right to me.  Although I have worked in many different fields, I have always held positions in customer service and have definitely found my niche.

What is one of your hobbies outside your time at I-Evolve?

My favorite hobby is reading, I will read almost anything and can’t remember ever picking up a book I did not want to finish.  I would have to say my absolute favorite books are mysteries, the kind you can’t put down.

What have you learned about technology since working at I-Evolve? Has it changed anything in your daily life?

I have learned so many things, too many to list! I think the most important thing I have learned is how much more convenient it can make your life, at both work and at home.  Technology allows you to have so much information at your fingertips at all times.  There are many services, such as i-Communicate VoIP and Hosted Desktops, that can make it easy and convenient for an employee to work from home if needed, which in my opinion, is pretty awesome.

It has changed my daily life quite significantly, at I-Evolve we work with new technologies every day.  In this growing field there is so much to learn and that amount grows each day, it’s pretty exciting!

What do you enjoy most about working at I-Evolve?

What I enjoy most about working at I-Evolve is I-Evolve; the company is wonderful and everyone who works here is great, not to mention our wonderful customers.  Since my first day, I have felt so welcomed and I have learned so much, it took almost no time at all for me to feel like part of the team.  I feel very lucky to have found my place here!
